Is ChatGPT Challenging the 800lb ‘Goog-rilla’

Opinion: Post -“Code Red”, Why is Google so Quiet?

CHATGPT challenges the 800lb Gorilla

Since not many people visit this website which is mostly filled with our musings on technology in current events, I figured it’s safe to post this opinion on why Google has remained so quiet about ChatGPT after having announced a “Code Red“. Google (Alphabet) is one of the most powerful and influential companies in the world, and its search algorithm is the backbone of the internet. However, despite the phenomenal press that ChatGPT, has received since the public release in December 2022, the company (Google) has yet to release any artificial intelligence search offerings to the public (beyond some tools for developers). This raises the question: why is Google so reticent to share its artificial intelligence search capabilities with the world?

800 lb Goog-rilla Don’t Play

One potential reason is that Google is concerned about the ethical implications of using artificial intelligence to influence search results. As the strongest authority in the search industry, Google’s algorithm and rules have the power to determine what is considered “valid” in terms of search engine results page (SERP) rankings and authority. This means that the company has a responsibility to ensure that its AI is used in a way that is fair and unbiased.

…Or Do They?

Another reason why Google may not want to be public with its AI search offerings is that the company may want to maintain its competitive edge. By keeping its AI search capabilities a secret, Google can use the AI capabilities to seek out websites with a lot of “AI created content” and downgrade those websites. De-indexing or essentially lowering the rank of enough pages and the word will get out; Google’s algo hates non-organic content. Slow the use of competing artificial intelligence engines (like ChatGTP) they start to look less of a threat to the KING. Thus, allowing Google to maintain a strategic advantage in the search industry.

FAR Out..or FAR Fetched..

This is just my take on Sun Tzu’s “Art of War” for the 21st Century. It’s a way of playing the game of search engine optimization in a more strategic manner. Google’s AI can be used to identify and target specific websites which leave the tell tale traces of being aided by AI, labeling them as such thus giving them a distinct disadvantage in the search industry.

On the Other Hand…

However, Google may also use its AI to improve the search experience for users. For example, the company could use artificial intelligence to identify and remove fake news and spam from search results, making the internet a safer and more reliable place for everyone.

While we can only speculate the reasons why Google AI may not want to be public with its artificial intelligence search offerings, it’s clear that the company has a responsibility to use its AI in a way that is fair and ethical. Whether it’s to maintain its competitive edge or to improve the search experience for users, Google has the power to shape the future of the internet with its AI search capabilities. It will be interesting to see how the company chooses to use this power in the coming years.

Risky Business..

Another reason why Google may not want to be public with its artificial intelligence search offerings is because of the potential backlash it could face. With the increasing concern over the impact of technology on society, many people are worried about the role that AI will play in shaping our future. If Google were to use its AI capabilities to remove competition, it could face criticism from those who are concerned about the implications of AI on privacy, security, and human autonomy.

Moreover, there is also the risk of Google’s AI search capabilities being misused or exploited by malicious actors. Given the sensitive nature of the information that is stored in search engines, it is crucial that Google’s AI is protected from hacking and data breaches. By keeping its AI search capabilities a secret, Google can better control access to its AI and minimize the risk of misuse.

Top Secret…

Additionally, Google’s AI search capabilities are not only valuable to the company but also to the intelligence agencies and governments around the world. It is possible that Google may not want to release its AI search capabilities to the public because it is aware of the potential of its technology being used by governments for surveillance and censorship.

In conclusion, Google’s decision to not be public with its artificial intelligence search offerings could be driven by a variety of factors. From the ethical and societal implications to the business and strategic considerations, there are many reasons why the company may choose to keep its AI search capabilities a secret. Regardless of the reasons, it is clear that Google’s AI search capabilities have the potential to shape the future of the internet and it will be interesting to see how the company chooses to use this power in the coming years.

However, it’s important to note that Google’s AI search capabilities are not entirely hidden from the public. Google has been incorporating machine learning into its search algorithm for years, with features such as autocomplete, spell-check and personalized search results. The company has also been open about its use of machine learning to improve its search results, such as the use of RankBrain which utilizes AI to understand the intent behind user queries and provide more relevant results.

Goog-rilla Got Upgrades

Additionally, Google has been investing in AI research and development to improve its search capabilities. The company has been working on natural language processing and machine learning to improve its ability to understand and respond to user queries. Google AI’s research team has also been working on improving the ability of its AI to understand and interpret images, videos, and other multimedia content.

Despite this, it is possible that Google is keeping some of its more advanced artificial intelligence search capabilities a secret for strategic reasons. The company may be using these capabilities to gain an advantage over its competitors and maintain its dominance in the search industry. Additionally, Google may be working on new machine learning search capabilities that it hasn’t yet revealed to the public, but will be using in the near future. In conclusion, while it’s true that Google has been relatively secretive about its AI search capabilities, it’s clear that the company has been investing in AI research and development to improve its search algorithm. While we may not know exactly what Google’s AI search capabilities are, it’s clear that the company is at the forefront of AI research and is likely to continue to shape the future of the search industry.
